The internet has evolved through three distinct phases: Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. Each is a shift in how people interact with the web, the underlying technology, and the purpose it serves.

Web 1.0

The static web, early 1990s to early 2000s: a read-only internet. Static HTML pages delivered information one way, from a handful of creators — companies and institutions — with little interactivity. HTTP and early browsers made knowledge globally accessible. Presence and discovery were the point.

Web 2.0

The social web, emerging in the early 2000s: a read-write platform. JavaScript and APIs powered Facebook, YouTube, and the rest, where anyone could create, share, and collaborate. Centralized companies amplified connectivity and hoarded data. Community-building came with privacy erosion.

Web 3.0

The decentralized web has been gaining traction since the 2010s. It shifts toward read-write-own, and user autonomy through decentralization. Blockchain, smart contracts, and AI drive it — peer-to-peer systems like Bitcoin and Stacks, and more personal experiences through intelligent tools. It promises data ownership and trustless interaction.

The ecosystem is loud, fast-moving, and a wild west in some corners. It is also an innovative space where leaders, individuals, and businesses are being enlightened and empowered each day.

The Block9 journey

We are a small but vibrant team focused on empowering individuals and businesses. Our technology journey started 15 years ago in Web 2.0. We have been blessed to work with some of the nation’s largest corporations. We have watched the landscape move from dedicated hardware, to personal computers, virtualization, cloud, and most recently artificial intelligence.

In the background, over those same 15 years, blockchain has been steadily evolving. Beginning in 2017, in our personal time, we started keeping tabs on it. Each year, more. It could never be shaken off as a fad. Decentralization — once a concept, now a reality — is fascinating. Down the rabbit hole it became clear: this is a game-changer, an innovation that will transform industries, organizations, and governments.

Why Block9?

Web3 is noisy. In corners of the ecosystem it still has the wild west. New chains and projects can appear and disappear in a night, a week, or months. If you have not spent time in it, it is hard to see through the noise. If you have not watched technology evolve, it is hard to tell who is cosplaying as innovation — sometimes knowingly, sometimes not. Sometimes it is just a lukewarm version of the real thing.

Through our lens of experience, people, organizations, businesses, and governments are going to need someone.

• Someone that can look at their goals and align them to capabilities in this innovation.

Success is a natural byproduct of doing what is right and good. Take care of people and everything else will fall into place.

After much contemplating, the decision was made to take a leap of faith and create Block9 in July of 2024.

Our mission begins

Block9 wants to understand your business pains and goals. We want to help you see through the noise and align your products, services, and goals to Bitcoin and Stacks. Every engagement, small or large: our goal is your success. We want to teach, empower, and show you how to navigate this landscape.

In many cases there is no centralized entity on a blockchain that can step in to course-correct a mistake. Best practices and a strategy matter. More innovations will come that mitigate user error. For now, a trusted resource is how you dodge malicious users, applications, and costly mistakes — and how you find the opportunities that will surface in the markets you serve.

It is our goal to earn that title as your trusted resource, and to partner with you as the new pioneers in your industry.
